Continuous Improvement Engineer/Engineering Specialist

 

  

Dr. Oetker is a state-of-the-art Pizza Production Facility in London, Ontario. With our Head Quarters in Germany, and operations in over 40 countries around the world, we are an international company with deep family roots dating back to 1891. Our London facility which employees about 300 associates was built in 2014 and showcases modern, highly automated, high volume production lines where we produce Ristorante, Casa di Mama and Giuseppe pizzas under the Dr. Oetker label.

 

In our facility, we start with raw materials such as flour and yeast to make a great pizza crust, topping with sauce and ingredients to make a fantastic, finished pizza and then freezing and packaging the pizzas for retail distribution. As a continuous improvement engineer/engineering specialist at Dr. Oetker, you will work with in our growing CI team and play a crucial role in optimizing plant performance by implementing process efficiency, waste reduction and cost savings improvement projects.

 

This is an onsite role based out of our London Facility, working Monday to Friday. However, flexibility is essential to align with production schedules and business needs.

 

Reporting to the Production Manager, and working within our growing CI Team you will:

  • Spend the majority of your time on the production floor analyzing the process, collecting data and implementing improvements.
  • Plan, manage and execute continuous improvement projects using lean principles such as kaizen, 5S, root cause analysis, SMED, Poke-Yoke, etc.
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to execute projects to drive efficiencies reducing waste and ultimately cost.
  • Create and review documentation and work instructions for new or existing projects and processes.
  • Drive continuous improvement of production processes, through:
    • Root cause analysis methodologies
    • Data analysis to make evidence based decisions for improvement
  • Own the equipment handover process from Engineering to Production, including:
    • Support commissioning activities of new equipment
    • Set up standardization
    • Changeover documentation
    • Training content creation & delivery
    • Ongoing Subject Matter Expert – daily Gemba walks & performance check ins on key equipment
    • Support troubleshooting and driving completion of projects to enable them to be brought to fruition
  • Improve line setup standardization, including:
    • Ideation and implementation of Poka-Yoke and SMED solutions
    • Changeover documentation system ownership
    • Center lining & documenting adjustable line parameters, both mechanical and software

 

Qualifications, Skills & Requirements

  • Minimum Five (5) years’ experience in a Continuous Improvement role in a large scale food manufacturing environment or other highly automated and regulated industry
  • Post-secondary education in engineering OR possess a red seal in a mechanical, electrical or automation trade OR equivalent experience
  • Skilled in the Microsoft Office suite of programs – Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Project, etc.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate others and is adept at leading change positively
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational and communication skills are required
  • Work well in and support a team-based environment
  • A natural problem solver possessing excellent analytical skills with a results oriented mindset
  • Roll up your sleeves mentality doing what it takes to get the job done, spending majority of your time on the production floor
  • Ability to learn fast, ambitious and come up with new innovative ideas
  • Ability to work a flexible work schedule to support a multiple-shift operation.
  • Must be able to touch and work with pork, chicken and beef products and work in hot and cold environments.
  • Must have a valid passport with the ability to travel internationally as required.

 

The expected base salary range for this position is CAD $85,000 to CAD $105,000 depending on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget
